Ana Fakatou Fakatou finished her career 3rd on the all-time scoring list.

Cypress never relinquishes the lead to defeat the Warriors.

March 4, 2006

Cypress, Calif. - The 2005-06 season ended with the same opponent as last year but a different result. Pasadena ended the Chargers’ quest to defend their state title as the Chargers lost to the Lancers 82-71. Sophomore Ana Fakatou played her last game for Cypress and scored 14 points while grabbing 5 rebounds. Fakatou finished her career 3rd on the all-time scoring list with 1095 points.

The offensive power of Pasadena could not be stopped as they scored 82 points and shot 50% from the field compared with 37.3% from the Chargers. Cypress came out and stunned Pasadena getting the early lead 9-4 after 4 minutes of play. The Lancers recovered and took the lead with 14 minutes left in the second half and never relinquished the lead. Pasadena held a 6 point lead with just a minute left in the game before the Chargers had to foul leading to the eventual 11 point loss. Freshman point guard Corianne Felix gave the Lancers a preview of next year’s talent as she scored 15 points and dished out 8 assists. Fellow freshman Brandi Thomas contributed 14 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Brae Butler rounded out the freshman showcase with 11 points and 4 steals. Sophomore Paula Reed finished her career for Cypress scoring 6 points with 4 rebounds.

Cypress ends their season 27-6 with Head Coach Margaret Mohr’s first conference championship, a conference MVP in Fakatou, and two other all-conference selections in Felix and Butler. The Cypress Women’s Basketball banquet will take place on March 26th with details to follow.
