Cypress, Calif. - The Chargers kept scoring and while shutting out Cerritos batters to end the game after just four and a half innings of play to a 9-0 victory. Freshman Alyssa Gutierrez played Renaissance woman as she pitched the shutout victory while going 2 for 3 at the plate including a double and a triple.
The Chargers started chipping away in the first as Gutierrez’s triple led the inning off putting her in scoring position for freshman first baseman Brooke Pefley’s sacrifice fly to score Gutierrez. In the second, sophomore outfielder Briannon Mahr got her fifth double of the season to score freshman Kristin Aufdemberg.
Cypress scoring just accelerated from there as they put up 4 runs in the third. Sophomore Amanda Fernandez belted a 2 RBI double scoring freshman Gabrielle Woody and Pefley. Aufdemberg then doubled to score Fernandez, and freshman Sabrina Hernandez singled to score Fernandez. The final blows were dealt in the fourth as Brittnay Hay doubled to score Gutierrez and Woody belted her second homerun of the season to score herself and Pacheco. Cypress scored in all four innings they were at bat. Gutierrez threw a two-hit game while striking out 3 to bring her record to 3-2 on the season.
The Chargers are headed on the road next to face Santa Ana in their next conference match-up. This is their first meeting with the 11-5-1 Dons. Santa Ana will be playing for a share of first in conference as they are just one game behind the Chargers with a record of 6-1. The teams will face off on Wednesday at 1:00 pm at Santa Ana.

Cypress, Calif. - Cypress gave up 3 runs in the first inning but came back quickly to overcome Riverside. Cypress tied the game in the second and kept going to defeat the Tigers 8-4. Freshman outfielder Sabrina Hernandez went 3 for 3 against the Tigers with two stolen bases to lead the Chargers.
Riverside came out strong with 3 runs in the first inning. Cypress remained calm as if they knew their comeback was afoot. The Chargers came back quickly tying it up in the second. Sophomore catcher Amanda Fernandez doubled to left field to score freshman Gabrielle Woody. The scoring continued with the next batter as sophomore outfielder Briannon Mahr belted her first triple of the season to score Fernandez. Freshman shortstop Alyssa Gutierrez grounded out to score Mahr and tie the game at 3-3.
The Chargers were not satisfied as then came into the bottom of the fourth to score 2. Fernandez singled to score freshman third baseman Brittnay Hay and freshman outfielder Kristin Aufdemberg singled to center to score Fernandez. The Tigers threatened at the top of the fifth as they scored a run to close the lead to 5-4. The Chargers answered back with 3 runs in the fifth as Aufdemberg scored on the catcher’s interference after being caught in a pickle. Gutierrez then grounded out to score Mahr. Hernandez then stole home to lock end the scoring at 8-4. Sophomore pitcher Elisa Graves pitched all 7 innings striking out 6 allowing 10 hits to maintain her perfect record at 10-0 on the season.
Cypress gets no break as they head into a weekend double header facing cross-town rivals Cerritos at 11:00 am Saturday and then Citrus at 3:00 pm at home. Cerritos is 9-8 and Citrus is 15-5.

Fullerton, Calif. - Cypress traveled to Fullerton for their second match up with the Hornets who ended Cypress’s season last year. Cypress won the first match up 5-2 but the Hornets were determined to battle this time around. The score was knotted at 2 a piece for four innings before the Chargers generate 2 runs in the eighth to win 4-2. Freshman first baseman Brooke Pefley went 3 for 5 on the day including a double and an RBI to lead the Chargers at the plate.
Fullerton came out firing first with 2 runs in the first. Cypress rallied in the second with one run as sophomore Briannon Mahr reached on an error and was advanced to second by freshman Sabrina Hernandez’s single. Freshman Jade Espinoza then singled to load the bases and on an error by the Fullerton first baseman, Mahr was able to score. In the fourth Hernandez singled and then stole second before advancing to third off of freshman Alyssa Gutierrez’s single. Pefley’s double scored Hernandez to even the score at 2-2 at the top of the fourth.
Scoring was stifled and the game had to go to an extra eighth inning before the Chargers scored two runs. Mahr was hit by a pitch to reach first and Hernandez hit a sacrifice bunt to move Mahr to second. Gutierrez doubled to score Mahr, the winning run. An insurance run was scored as Brittnay Hay singled to score Pefley. Gutierrez with 2 hits including a double and an RBI. Mahr scored 2 of the 4 Charger runs. Cypress pitcher Elisa Graves sealed the game by retiring the last three in a row to end the game. After giving up 2 runs, (1 earned) in the first, Graves shut out the Hornets pitching all 8 innings allowing just 4 hits while striking out 8.
Cypress returns home for another conference match up as they face Riverside for the second time this season. Cypress beat Riverside at Riverside earlier this year 4-0. The teams will face off at Cypress Friday at 3:00 pm.

Cypress, Calif. - Cypress started the weekend with a challenge facing second ranked Antelope Valley. Cypress was ranked third right behind the Marauders. Cypress took care of the Marauders 2-0 before taking on Ventura and activating the mercy rule in six innings 8-0. Cypress’s victories on Saturday have boosted them to first in Southern California. Sophomore Elisa Graves pitched the first game against Antelope Valley shutting out the Marauder bats in seven innings of work allowing five hits and striking out 4. Graves maintained her perfect record of 8-0.
Cypress and Antelope Valley were locked up in a scoreless game until the sixth. Freshman Brooke Pefley started the inning with a single to right. Sophomore Amanda Fernandez advanced Pefley to scoring position on a sacrifice bunt. Freshman Gabrielle Woody was up next and hit a double to left to score Pefley and break the tie. For insurance, Brittnay Hay doubled to right to score Woody for 2 runs in 3 hits in the sixth and the final score of 2-0. Graves shutout the last batter to end the game.
The Chargers suited up to face Ventura later that afternoon. Cypress waited till the second inning to score with one run and blew up in the third with 4 runs. The Chargers scored three more to activate the mercy rule beating Ventura 8-0 in six innings off of just 8 hits as they were walked 8 times. Freshman shortstop Alyssa Gutierrez went 2 for 4 including a double and an RBI and scored a run. Pefley had another good game getting a hit, and RBI and a run. Sabrina Hernandez went 1 for 1 with a double, an RBI, a run, was walked twice, and stole one base. Angelena Pacheco had her first at bat of the season getting a hit and an RBI. Sophomore Vanessa Zboril pitched the shutout win allowing just 3 hits and striking out 6 to maintain her perfect record of 5-0.
Cypress has a few days off before traveling to Fullerton to face the Hornets Wednesday at 3:00 pm. This is the Chargers’ second meeting with the Hornets this year; Cypress won the first game at home 5-2.

Cypress, Calif. - There was no come from behind last minute heroics or a blowout win like the Chargers have been used to lately. Today seemed like business as usual as Cypress was steady at the plate and in the field to beat Saddleback 4-1. Saddleback is ranked 14th in Southern California. Freshman designated player Gabrielle Woody had her best game of the season going 3 for 4 at the plate batting in the Chargers’ first two runs.
The Chargers dealt the first blow in the first inning as Woody singled to score Brooke Pefley. Pefley ended the game 2 for 4 with 1 run. Cypress took an inning off before scoring another run in the third when Woody’s single scored freshman Alyssa Gutierrez this time. The Chargers scored their last two runs in the fifth when freshman Kristin Aufdemberg came in to pinch hit and singled to score Woody in her only at bat. This was followed immediately by Briannon Mahr’s RBI to score Fernandez. Elisa Graves kept her record perfect as she pitched a complete game to go 7-0 on the season thus far. Graves allowed just 5 hits and no earned runs while striking out 4.
Cypress heads into a home double-header weekend as they face Antelope Valley and Ventura Saturday. The games will start at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm respectively. The first game against Antelope Valley is pivotal as the Marauders are ranked first in Southern California and Cypress is right behind them in second.

Bakersfield, Calif. - Cypress started the week ranked 5th in Southern California. Their steady and impressive performance over this weekend proved that they were deserving of a climb up the rankings to second in the region. The Chargers played five games this weekend beating Golden West, Sequoias, Mt. Sac, and Taft and losing to Bakserfield. Freshman Alyssa Gutierrez had an outstanding weekend for the Chargers both hitting and pitching. Gutierrez went 13 for 20 over the weekend and pitched in two games earning a win and a save.
Cypress started on Friday with a conference match-up at Golden West. The game came down to the seventh inning as the Chargers went into the last inning down 4 runs. Cypress had an amazing one inning rally scoring 5 runs in the seventh for a narrow win over the Rustlers, 7-6. Gutierrez led the Chargers going 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs including her second homerun this season. Center fielder Jade Espinoza contributed 2 hits, 2 runs, and an RBI. Pitcher Elisa Graves had a rough fifth inning giving up 4 runs but bounced right back to strike three in a row out in the sixth. Graves finished with the win and a season high 11 strikeouts.
The Chargers headed on the road again Saturday to Bakserfield and started with the Giants of the College of Sequoias. This time the Chargers did not wait till the last minute scoring six runs before the Giants could even get on the board and winning 7-3. Gutierrez had another 3 for 4 game including a double with 2 RBIs. Catcher Gabrielle Woody pitched in going 2 for 4 including her first homerun this season. Gutierrez was also the starting pitcher against Sequoias allowing no hits in 4.2 innings of work to notch the win.
The Chargers faced a big challenge Saturday afternoon against Mt. Sac who was ranked first in Southern California. The Chargers fell behind early as the Mounties scored 3 in the first. Cypress kept up and eventually surpassed Mt. Sac for the upset win 9-6. Gutierrez again led Cypress at the plate going 2 for 4 scoring 2 runs with 4 RBIs on 2 doubles. Freshman Sabrina Hernandez added 2 hits including a double, 2 runs, and an RBI. Elisa Graves pitched a complete game for Cypress striking out 7 and allowing just 3 earned runs. Graves is now 6-0 this season.
Cypress had a bit of a let down the next morning facing host team Bakersfield. The Chargers could not score in 6 innings and 3 runs in the seventh was close but not enough as they fell to the Renegades 3-4. Freshman Brooke Pefley led the Chargers going 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Sophomore Briannon Mahr went 2 for 3 with 1 run. Gutierrez was charged for the loss against Bakersfield pitching 3.2 innings.
The Chargers bounced back quickly against Taft College as they shut out the Cougars while scoring 8 runs. The game was close for a while as Cypress was holding on to a 1-0 lead for 5 innings before the Charger bats caught fire with 3 runs in the sixth and 4 runs in the seventh. Gutierrez went 4 for 5 against the Cougars with 4 RBIs and 2 runs. Freshman Brittnay Hay was also 4 for 5 notching 2 RBIs. Espinoza was the third Charger going 4 for 5 with 2 runs and an RBI. Vanessa Zboril pitched the shutout allowing just 5 hits and striking out 6. Zboril is now 4-0 on the season.
The Chargers get to return home after a short break to face Saddleback. Saddleback is 9-9 this season and finished second last year behind Cypress in the Orange Empire Conference. The teams will face of Wednesday at 3:00 pm at Cypress.

Cypress, Calif. - The Chargers came to the plate ready to hit scoring 7 runs in the first two innings. A late scoring effort by Orange Coast could not catch the Chargers as they defeated the Pirates 10-4. Freshman infielder Brittnay Hay went 2 for 4 on the day scoring twice. Hay had 3 RBIs including a two-run triple in the second.
Cypress started with 2 runs in the first inning when Victoria Castillo singled to score Alyssa Gutierrez. The next batter Hay singled to score Amanda Fernandez. The Charger scoring exploded in the fifth with five runs. Kristin Aufdemberg was walked in then Castillo batted in Brooke Pefley. Hay’s triple brought in Fernandez and Guttierez and then Hay scored on a wild pitch. The scoring slowed as Cypress did not score until the fourth when Castillo scored on an error and Gabrielle Woody scored on a passed ball. Cypress’s tenth score came in the sixth as Woody scored again off of a Jade Espinoza double. Sophomore Vanessa Zboril pitched the complete game allowing 3 earned runs 8 hits and no walks while striking out 5.
Cypress is now 8-1 and undefeated in conference. They head back out on the road as they face Golden West away on Friday at 3:00 pm. The Rustlers are 7-9 and 1-1 in conference.

Cypress, Calif. - Cypress traveled to Visalia this weekend for the College of Sequioas Tournament and then came home so they could make the trip out to Riverside Monday for a conference face-off. When the dust settled, five games were completed and the Chargers came out with four wins.
The Chargers opened up the tournament Saturday with Fresno College and left the Rams in the dust early scoring 6 runs in the first inning. Eventually the mercy rule was enforced and Cypress defeated Fresno 10-1 in five innings. Freshman shortstop Alyssa Gutierrez went 2 for 2 against the Rams with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Sophomore Vanessa Zboril pitched a complete game for the Chargers striking out 7 and allowing just 4 hits.
Cypress moved on Saturday night to face Porterville. Gutierrez moved from shortstop to the pitching position to shut down the Pirates while Charger batters scored to give Cypress the victory 7-0. Gutierrez pitched a complete game shutout in 7 innings striking out 6 and allowing just 5 hits. First baseman Brooke Pefley went 3 for 4 against the Pirates.
Sunday morning was the same story for Cypress as they blew out Reedley College 9-2. Freshman Kristin Aufdemberg hit the Chargers’ first homerun of the season with a 2 run homer in the fifth. She ended the game 2 for 2 with a homerun and a single. Pitcher Elisa Graves notched another win pitching over 5 innings. Graves is now 3-0.
Sunday afternoon was more challenging for the Chargers as they faced the pitching of West Valley College. Cypress could not get past the Wolfpack pitching as they struck out 12 times losing to West Valley 2-3. Sophomore Amanda Fernandez led the Chargers with a two-run home run in the third to take the lead 2-0. Cypress could not hold on as the Wolfpack scored 3 in the fourth which was enough to hand Cypress their first loss in 2006.
After coming home from Visalia, the Chargers headed off again Monday for a conference match-up against Riverside. Graves pitched again for Cypress pitching another complete game shutout to lead Cypress to the 4-0 victory. Graves allowed just 2 hits while striking out 6. It was Gutierrez’s turn for a homer as she belted a 3-run home run in the third to seal the game for Cypress.
The Chargers are now 7-1 and 2-0 in conference and take a day off before a much needed home game. This time the opponent is Orange Coast College. They will face off Wednesday at 3:00 at home.

Cypress, Calif. - Fullerton threatened Cypress late in the game trailing the Chargers by only one run before Cypress opened it up in the sixth inning to defeat the Hornets 5-2. Sophomore outfielder Briannon Mahr kept up her spectacular batting going 3 for 3 including 2 doubles, 2 runs, and a stolen base. Mahr is leading the Chargers in batting averaging .778 in three games.
Cypress started the scoring early taking advantage of the struggling Fullerton starting pitcher as Brittnay Hay had an RBI triple and then scored off of an error to give Cypress the 2-0 lead. Fullerton scored in the second before first baseman Brooke Pefley singled to score Mahr. The Hornets scored again in the fifth to put the pressure on Cypress by scoring in the fifth to close the score to 3-2. The Chargers insured their lead in the sixth with two runs. Mahr started the scoring stealing home before Pefley singled to score freshman Jade Espinoza. Pefley finished with 2 RBIs.
Cypress goes on the road next to Visalia for the College of Sequoias tournament for four games. Their first opponent will be Ohlone on Saturday at 2:30 pm.

Cypress, Calif. - The 9th ranked Chargers made a day of it first defeating Victor Valley 12-4 in 5 innings and then shutting out Canyons 6-0. Sophomore pitcher Elisa Graves opened her season with a shutout complete game against Canyons allowing only 4 hits.
Victor Valley threatened Cypress early scoring twice in the first inning but the Chargers were unfazed as they answered back with three. Charger scoring exploded in the second inning with six runs on six hits with ten at bats before the inning was over. The scoring did not end there as the Chargers scored 2 in the third and one in the fifth before the game was called because of an eight-point margin. Sophomore Vanessa Zboril notched the win with 5 strikeouts in four innings of work. Freshman shortstop Alyssa Gutierez led the Chargers at the plate with 3 hits, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Sophomore Briannon Mahr had 3 hits in 3 at-bats.
Canyons could not get past Graves’s pitching and the Chargers hitting. The game was scoreless going into the fourth before Mahr’s two-run RBI. The scoring continued in the next inning with four runs including a two-run RBI by sophomore Amanda Fernandez to score Brittnay Hay and Angelena Pacheco.
The Chargers have a short rest before their first conference match-up against Fullerton at home on Wednesday at 3:00 pm. Fullerton is 1-2 overall coming off of a 3-2 win over Cerritos.
