Chargers Shut out in Conference Opener

Cypress, Calif. - Cypress started conference action Thursday facing a big challenge taking on the number eight ranked Hornets of Fullerton. The Hornets proved to be too much to handle for Cypress as they were shut out 9-0. Freshman Nicole El-Ali had the most competitive match of the day in the number two slot losing 6-3, 6-3. They have the weekend off before heading to Irvine Valley Tuesday at 2:00 pm.

Cypress, Calif. - Cypress Women’s Tennis played its first match of 2009 on Tuesday, the first match for the program since 2006. The Chargers debuted with a 5-2 loss to El Camino. Freshman Yvonne Jara led Cypress with a win in the number two slot.
The Chargers lost the first singles match to finish but freshman Ahed Saleh evened the score with a win in the number four spot 6-2, 6-3. Cypress then lost in the number one slot before Jara won in the number two slot 6-4, 6-2. The Chargers automatically lost in the fifth slot because of lack of players, and both teams did not have enough for the six slot. Losing 3-2 after singles action, Cypress was not able to make up ground in doubles losing both matches contested.
Cypress has a week off before starting conference action heading to Santa Ana to take on the Dons. The two will meet up at Santa Ana next Tuesday at 2:00 pm.

Missing player determining factor in loss to Hornets.

Fullerton, Calif. - The Charger Women’s Tennis program continues to show improvement as they almost pull out a second win over Fullerton. Cypress was missing a player which could have made the difference as the Chargers had to forfeit two points and lost to Fullerton 4-5. Freshman Michelle Chase helped Cypress earn two points winning both her singles and doubles match. Chase and partner Jenna Hill won in the number one doubles spot 8-3. Chase then moved on to win in the number two singles spot in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
Hill almost pulled out a win in the number one singles spot as she went to three sets but lost 3-6, 6-0, 3-6. Cypress won in the number two doubles spot with Nicole Shoemaker and Kryzl Manimbo 9-7 but lost in the number three spot because of forfeit. Freshman Nadine Napoles also won in her singles spot 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.
Cypress has a short break before facing Irvine Valley at home. IVC is 3-4 on the season and 2-2 in conference. IVC will come to Cypress at 2:00 pm Thursday.

Cypress, Calif. - Cypress won 5 matches against Santa Ana and the Dons forfeited 4 for a 9-0 Charger victory. Sophomore Jenna Hill led Cypress in the number 1 spot for both doubles and singles play. Hill was paired with freshman Michelle Chase and defeated the Dons number 1 doubles team 8-0. In singles play, Hill won 6-0, 6-2.
Chase played in the number 2 spot in singles play and swept 6-0, 6-0. The results were the same for Nicole Shoemaker and Kryzl Manimbo who both won their spots 6-0, 6-0. Two doubles matches and two singles matches were forfeited.
Cypress has a few days off before another conference matchup with Fullerton. The Chargers will head to Fullerton for a match set for 2:00 pm Tuesday.
