Contact Coach Mohr: mmohr@cypresscollege.edu
Margaret Mohr has the Lady Chargers running strong in her ninth season directing the Cypress College women’s basketball program. The past two seasons Cypress has lost just 11 games, and in 2004-05 led the underdog Chargers to her first State Championship. She has also taken the college to seven consecutive post-season appearances. Last season Mohr led Cypress to their first Orange Empire Conference championship since 1988.
Throughout both her playing and coaching career, Mohr has been no stranger to basketball success. Her high school playing career laid the foundation for the future, leading La Reina High of Thousand Oaks to the 1983 Southern Section Class 3A title and earning both CIF-SS and National Catholic Player of the Year honors. She was inducted into the Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame on June 19, 2004.
Mohr then played for legendary coach Joan Bonvincini at Long Beach State and helped lead the 49ers to a 33-3 record and a berth in the Women’s Final Four in 1987. After graduation, Mohr began her coaching career as an assistant at Long Beach State and Santa Clara before taking the head coaching job at Woodrow Wilson High in Long Beach, guiding the Lady Bruins to a pair of Moore league titles and a CIF runner-up finish. During the summer of 2006, Mohr was given the unique opportunity to be an assistant coach for the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks. At the Sparks she had the opportunity to coach such names as Lisa Leslie and Chamique Holdsclaw.
Her goals for the Lady Chargers’ program remain the same: to help her players achieve academic excellence, athletic excellence and personal fulfillment. "I want the women in our program to leave Cypress College with all the tools to be successful in today’s competitive world and with two years of great memories and dreams come true"
Mohr received her Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education from Long Beach State in 1988, and her Masters of Arts in PE from LBSU in 1996.
