Poor First Half Dooms Chargers Against OCC

Cypress charges back in second half but come up just short.

Costa Mesa, Calif. - Cypress scored just 15 points in the first half, a season low shooting just 23%. The first half was the difference maker as Cypress came back in the second half to within 5 before having to foul. A last second 3-point shot brought it to within 6 as the Chargers lost to the Pirates 57-51. Sophomore forward Ana Fakatou led the comeback and reached her seventh double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Cypress outshot Orange Coast in the end with 2 more field goals, but the difference maker was 5 more three-point buckets and 5 more made freethrows for the Pirates. Meanwhile the Chargers notched a season-low in turnovers with just 8. Freshman forward Sheila Ho-Ching helped push the comeback and ended the night with 12 points before fouling out. Freshmen Brae Butler and Brandi Thomas combined for 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists.

The Chargers will try to rebound next Wednesday night in a conference matchup with Golden West. Golden West is 0-2 in conference and 2-13 on their season. The teams will matchup Wednesday night at 7:30 pm at home.
