Chargers Can't Hold off IVC Comeback

Cypress, Calif. - It looked like business as usual as the Chargers went into half-time with a 13 point lead holding Irvine Valley to just 24 points. But the tide turned in the second half as the Lasers turned on the offense scoring 49 points in the second half to deal the Chargers a 66-73 loss. Freshman forward Sheila Ho-Ching pushed Cypress with 16 points and 8 rebounds shooting 57% from the field.
Cypress was unable to hold their lead in the second half as IVC went on a 12-0 run. IVC took the lead with just 1:08 left on the clock and the Chargers were unable to earn back the lead. Despite out-rebounding Irvine Valley and hitting 5 more field goals, the Chargers could not make up for their lack of made free-throws. Cypress was just 1-6 from the stripe while IVC was 15-19 making the difference in the outcome of the game. Charger captain Ana Fakatou led Cypress in scoring with 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals. Freshman guard Brae Butler hit a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Freshmen guards Corianne Felix and Anureet Dhaliwal combined for 14 points and 8 assists.
Cypress faces another tough matchup next Wednesday night as they visit the defending Orange Empire Conference champions, Riverside College. Riverside is ranked 5th in the state, 17-6 on the season, and 3-1 in conference play. The Chargers will face off with Riverside Wednesday night at Riverside at 7:30 pm.
