The Chargers Move into 1st in the Conference with Win over Saddleback

Mission Viejo, Calif. – Cypress staved off a slow start to add another win to their record beating Saddleback 71-46. Sophomore guard Mia Seagraves ended the night with 16 points and was the only player without a turnover.

Saddleback held their own in the first half and led by two at a few points but Cypress pulled away and led by 11 at half. The Chargers came out in the second half and increased their lead to win by 25. Four Chargers ended up in double digits on the night. “We had a slow start,” said head coach Margaret Mohr, “but I was pleased with how we came out and played in the second half.” Freshman forward Ana Fakatou followed up her standout game against Riverside with 14 points and 8 rebounds while fellow forward Rosalyn Omoruyi led all scorers with 19 points. Freshman forward Brianna James was also in double figures with a career-high 11 points.

This win puts the Chargers in a four-way tie for first place in the Orange Empire Conference with Fullerton, Irvine Valley, and Golden West. The Chargers will look to pull ahead next Wednesday at 7:30 at Cypress against Orange Coast.
