Cypress, Calif. - The Chargers put on a show for friends and family at this year’s Parents’ Night. The tone was set early as Cypress broke on a 15-0 run in the first six minutes of the game. The Charger scoring did not let up and the defense was stifling as the Chargers beat Saddleback 83-24. Ten Chargers added to the scoring with four in double-digits. Freshman forward Brandi Thomas contributed with her first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The Charger defense stepped up as they held the Gauchos to just 15.7% from the field for 24 points. Cypress outscored Saddleback off of turnovers alone with 30 points. The Charger stats ended up ripe with season and career highs. Freshman guard Marinna Figueroa more than doubled her season high in scoring hitting 5 three-pointers for 15 points on the night. Sophomore captain Ana Fakatou scored the first 8 points of the game and ended the night with 10 points on limited minutes. Freshman point guard Corianne Felix topped her career-high from just the game before with 9 assists to go along with her 7 points. Freshman point guard Marissa Bravo contributed with a game high 4 steals with 5 assists and 6 points. Michelle Babin hit a season-high 8 points and 3 assists while Anureet Dhaliwal was in double digits with 10 points. The smallest guard on the team, freshman Channing Lewis, hustled her way to 10 rebounds and a season-high 5 points. Sophomore captain Paula Reed also grabbed 10 rebounds with 4 points.
The Chargers have another home game ahead of them against Santa Ana. Santa Ana has been surprising opponents upsetting Irvine Valley and losing to Riverside by only one point earlier in Conference play. Santa Ana is tied for 5th in conference with a 3-3 record, and a 12-10 record overall. Cypress is now in a three-way tie for 2nd in conference with Riverside and Fullerton two games behind Orange Coast. The Chargers will face off against Santa Ana Wednesday night at 7:30 pm at home.
