Fullerton, Calif. - Margaret Mohr is in her eighth season at Cypress and has never been able to overcome conference rivals both times in conference. The pesky Hornets are historically tough rivals for the Chargers as Cypress has lost both or split every season during Mohr's era. Not so this year as the Chargers added on to their earlier conference defeat of the Hornets with a 68-53 win. Sophomore captain Ana Fakatou led the Chargers with 21 points and 11 rebounds, her ninth double-double of the year.
Cypress fought their way to a slim 5 point lead at halftime 28-23. They then outscored the Hornets by 10 in the second half for the 15 point victory. Freshman guard Brae Butler contributed with 11 points and 8 rebounds to go along with 5 steals. Freshman guard Anureet Dhaliwal chipped in 10 points in just a half of play. Tandem point guards Corianne Felix and Marissa Bravo combined for 16 points and 8 assists.
The Chargers are headed back home for a key match-up Wednesday night as they face the first place Orange Coast Pirates. OCC is ranked fifth in the state and is one game ahead of Cypress in conference, if Cypress can win this game, they will be tied with OCC for first in conference. The teams will face off Wednesday night at 5:30 at Cypress.
