Fakatou Reaches 1000 to Beat Irvine Valley

Cypress exacts revenge on IVC and holds on to first.

Cypress, Calif. - The Chargers were out for revenge against Irvine Valley who handed them their last loss seven games ago. Cypress started slow but turned it up in the second half to beat the Lasers 80-65. Ana Fakatou had 6 points to go to reach 1000 career points. Her double-double was more than enough as she hit 19 points and 12 rebounds with 4 assists and 4 steals. She is now at 1013 career points.

Cypress started the first half with as much as an 8 point lead but could not pull away from the pesky lasers and went into half with only a 3 point lead. IVC came back in the second half determined and took the lead with 7:40 left in the game. Cypress responded by going on a 12-2 run and never looking back. Freshman guard Brae Butler was the second charger with a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds with 3 steals. Freshman point guard Corianne Felix contributed in double-digits with 11 points and 5 assists. Sophomore center Paula Reed was a force in the center with 8 rebounds and 6 points. Freshmen Brandi Thomas and Marissa Bravo combined for 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The Chargers are looking forward to Friday for the most pivotal game thus far in their season. Cypress will face off with Riverside, the victor will maintain their spot atop the Orange Empire Conference. The last time these two teams met, Cypress emerged with a last minute one point win. The teams will meet up Friday at 5:30 at Cypress.
