Chargers Hit Century Mark in First Round of Charger Classic

Cypress, Calif. – Cypress is on a quest to win their third straight Lady Charger Classic championship making a statement in the first round hitting 100 points in their first round game over LA Harbor. The Chargers took the lead and never relinquished it in the 100-53 blowout win. Sophomore guard Marissa Bravo made her season debut against the Seahawks after missing the first six games of the season because of injury. Bravo started her with a bang scoring a career high 19 points going 9 for 10 from the free-throw line to lead Cypress in scoring. Bravo also picked up 4 steals along the way.
Cypress took just eight minutes to jump out to a 21 point lead 26-5 to set the pace. LA Harbor picked it up early in the second half coming as close as 12 points early in the second half. Cypress would go on an 11-2 run from there and would not look back scoring 54 second half points for the big 47 point win. Freshman point guard Shaneis Augustus celebrated her birthday by putting in the 100th point on a free throw. Every active Charger scored. Sophomore guard Brae Butler notched her second double-double in a row scoring 10 points while grabbing 12 rebounds. Butler also stole the ball 4 times. Sophomore forward Brandi Thomas was close to a double-double with 12 points and 9 rebounds in just nine minutes. Freshman forward Letisha Batiste was the final Cypress player in double digits with 11 points.
Cypress moves on the second round of the Lady Charger Classic facing off with El Camino in a rematch of last year’s first round Southern California Regionals. El Camino is 2-5 this season coming off of a 68-48 win over Rio Hondo. The two face off at 6:00 pm at Cypress Saturday.
