Consistent Scoring Moves Cypress into Charger Classic Championship Game

Cypress, Calif. – The Chargers faced off with El Camino in a rematch of last year’s first round of playoffs. Cypress came out on top again 65-51 which propels Cypress into the Championship game of the 23rd Annual Lady Charger Classic. Freshman forward Saw-Ann Bryan led Cypress in scoring with 13 points in just 16 minutes going six for nine from the field.

Cypress took the lead to start the game and never relented holding the lead the entire game. Cypress got out of the gate quick with a 7-0 lead after just two minutes. The Warriors would come back to tie it at seven, the only tie of the game. The Chargers took control again finishing the half with an eleven point lead, 35-24. Cypress jumped ahead by as much as 19 points in the second half before eventually beating El Camino by 14. Turnovers were the difference maker as Cypress forced 25 El Camino turnovers outscoring the Warriors 23-6 on points off of turnovers.

Sophomore guard Brae Butler collected her third straight double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds while adding 4 steals. Sophomore point guard Corianne Felix added valuable minutes dishing out six assists. Sophomore forward Brandi Thomas hit double digits with 10 points. Freshmen Tonisha Phelps and Letisha Batiste combined to score 9 points, grab 7 rebounds, and steal the ball 5 times.

Cypress moves on to the championship game of the Lady Charger Classic tomorrow. The Chargers will face Palomar. Palomar is 5-5 coming off of 55-52 come from behind win over American River in the semifinals. Cypress will try for their third straight Lady Charger Classic championship Sunday at 4:00 pm.
