Cypress Wins Third Straight Lady Charger Classic Championship

Cypress, Calif. – Cypress went 3-0 in their own tournament to win their third straight Lady Charger Classic championship. Cypress defeated Palomar for the championship holding the lead all game to win 64-49. Sophomore guard Brae Butler led all scorers with 19 points and 6 steals on her way to tournament MVP honors.

Cypress went up 2-0 to start the game with two free throws from sophomore guard Marissa Bravo. Palomar would tie it up at two at the 18:45 mark. That would be the only tie Cypress would allow pulling ahead quickly with an 8-0 run and never looking back. The Chargers stretched their lead throughout the first half up 39-20 after the first half buzzer. Palomar would outscore Cypress by four in the second half but it was not nearly enough as Cypress finished with the 15 point victory. The Chargers were awarded with the tournament championship and Butler would win tournament MVP honors. Sophomore forward Brandi Thomas was also honored with all-Tournament team. Thomas scored 12 points against Palomar. Sophomore forward Michelle Babin also added 12 points with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Sophomore guard Marissa Bravo and freshman forward Saw-Ann Bryan combined for 14 points and 15 rebounds.

Cypress has a week and a long break before hosting San Francisco at home. San Francisco is 6-5 and is ranked 14th in the state. The two face off Friday December 15th at Cypress at 3:00 pm.
