Cypress Behind All the Way in Loss at Crossover

Santa Clarita, Calif. – The Chargers could never get control of the game Saturday against Ventura at the Canyons Crossover. Cypress had the lead just twice in the first half and then trailed the rest of the way in a 64-76 loss to rival Ventura. Freshman guard Yanet Enriquez scored a career high 18 points while grabbing 4 rebounds.
The Chargers started with a narrow lead and held it until four minutes into the game when Ventura took charge for good on a 7-0 run. Cypress kept it close coming to within two until the Pirates went on another run 10-0 late in the first half. Ventura went into halftime with a 45-36 lead. Cypress started strong in the second half and chipped away at the lead coming to within two at the 12:30 mark but let it slip away again. The Chargers were forced to foul in the end finishing the game down 12.
Sophomore guard Marissa Bravo produced an impressive line scoring 12 points going six for nine from the field with 4 assists and 6 rebounds. Sophomore guard Brae Butler finished the night with 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals. Freshman forward Saw-Ann Bryan was the fourth Charger in double digits with 10 points and 4 rebounds.
Cypress falls to 5-6 heading into the second game of the Canyons Crossover. Cypress faces the host Canyons Sunday. Eighth ranked Canyons is 8-5 coming off of a 74-50 blowout of San Francisco. The teams face off at 3:00 pm Sunday at College of the Canyons.
