Cypress Holds on in Five Point Victory

The Chargers move on to the Consolation Championship.

Cupertino, Calif. – Cypress moved on to the second round of the Mike Gervasoni Memorial Classic Friday in a do or die match-up against Cosumnes River. Cypress jumped out to a big lead and barely held on to defeat the Hawks 68-65. Sophomore guard Marissa Bravo went 4 for 5 from the field scoring 11 points while grabbing 7 rebounds and 4 assists.

The Chargers started strong again jumping out to a big first half lead off of 68% shooting from the field to go into halftime up 43-29. Cypress faltered in the second half allowing a 12-0 run by the Hawks giving up the lead briefly. The Chargers were able to take back the lead again but could not extend. Cosumnes River had a few chances to tie the game but was stopped as Cypress finished with a five point win.

Sophomore guard Brae Butler led Cypress in scoring with 13 points in the first half and 14 to finish the game. Sophomore forward Brandi Thomas scored 11 points and grabbed 7 boards in just 13 minutes. Freshman Yanet Enriquez and Michelle Babin scored a combined 17 points.

Cypress improves to 6-9 on their way to the consolation championship. Cypress faces off with Los Angeles Southwest Saturday. L.A. Southwest is 4-10 coming off of a big win over Porterville. The two face off for the Consolation Championship Saturday at 11:00 am at De Anza.
