Chargers Hold Rustlers to 45 to Improve to 2-1 in Conference

Cypress, Calif. – Cypress hosted their second home conference game Wednesday and was hoping to gain momentum with a quality win against Golden West. The Chargers did just that holding the Rustlers to 45 points while scoring 70 of their own for the 25 point win. Sophomore forward Kishawn Hill grabbed a career high 10 rebounds while scoring 6 points and stealing the ball twice.

Golden West scored first but Cypress led the rest of the way going on a 15-0 run early in the first half. The Rustlers woke up and contributed some points of their own to end the half 29-19 in Cypress’s favor. The Rustlers hit a three-pointer to start the second half to cut the Charger lead to 7, but that was the closest Golden West would get the rest of the game as Cypress extended their lead to as much as 30 before the eventual 25 point win.

Sophomore guard Brae Butler scored a season high 25 points to lead Cypress while stealing the ball 5 times. Sophomore guard Marissa Bravo paced the Chargers with 6 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Freshman forward Saw-Ann Bryan started the game and finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals. Freshman guard Yanet Enriquez was the third Charger in double digits with 10 points. Cypress ended the game with a season high 27 steals.

The Chargers stay home Friday to face rival Fullerton. The Hornets are 17-5 so far this season, 2-1 in conference, and ranked sixth in Southern California. Fullerton is coming off of a four point loss to Orange Coast. Cypress is tied with Fullerton for second in conference; the winner will maintain their place at second while the loser will slip to third. The teams will face off Friday at 7:30 pm at Cypress. This game will also celebrate Parents' Night for Cypress.
