Cypress Takes Charge the Whole way in 38 Point Victory

Huntington Beach, Calif. – The Chargers faced Golden West for the second time this season, this time at their place. Cypress made it a similar outcome this time around with a 67-29 victory. Freshman guard Tonisha Phelps paced Cypress with a team high 6 steals, 6 assists, 7 points, and 7 rebounds.

Cypress jumped out to the lead early and kept pace continually extending the point spread finishing with a 21 point lead at half. The momentum continued in the second as Cypress jumped out to as much as a 40 point lead before the eventual 38 point victory.

Every Cypress player who got in the game scored. Sophomore guard Brae Butler led all scorers with 17 points including 7 rebounds, 4 steals, and 4 assists. Sophomore guard Corriane Felix added 9 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Sophomore guard Marissa Bravo contributed a balanced line with 7 rebounds, 4 points, 4 assists, and 5 steals. Saw-Ann Bryan and Channing Lewis combined for 16 points and 7 rebounds.

Cypress has the weekend off before a rematch with rival Fullerton. Fullerton is 7-3 in second place in conference. The last time these teams met, Cypress lost by 8 despite a comeback attempt. The Hornets are ranked sixth in Southern California and are coming off of a 59-74 loss to first place OCC. The teams will meet up at Fullerton this time, Wednesday at 5:30 pm.
