Cypress, Calif. – Until Saturday, Cypress had won five straight Lady Charger Classic Tournament championships winning 17 straight championship games. Eleventh ranked Palomar changed all that avenging their 2006 championship game loss as Cypress could only generate 36 points in the 81-36 loss. Sophomore forward Saw-Ann Bryan led Cypress with ten rebounds, eight points, and three steals.

Cypress had a miserable first half going just 2 for 34 from the field in the first half. The Chargers were unable to score until six minutes into the game already down 10-0. Most of the first half Charger points were scored from the free throw line finishing the half with just 11 points down 43-11. The Chargers picked it up a little in the second half scoring 25 more but still losing by 45. Freshman guard Michelle Salemi led Cypress in scoring with nine points. Freshman guard Sequana Norris led Cypress defensively with four steals.

Cypress falls to 1-6 on the season and moves on to the third place game tomorrow against Rio Hondo. Rio reached the third place game by defeating West LA in the first round and then losing to El Camino today in the semi-finals. The two teams will face off Sunday at 2:00 pm for third place at Cypress. Palomar will face El Camino in the finals at 4:00 pm.
