Cypress, Calif. – The Chargers hosted their final game before the holiday break taking on the Vaqueras of Glendale. Cypress had a tough task against the 11-4 Vaqueras and fell just short of an upset 55-56. Freshman guard Kejera Jolly led a balanced Cypress offensive with ten points and three assists.
Cypress could not seem to hold on to the ball committing an abysmal 21 turnovers in just the first half on the way to a game total of 33. The turnovers made all the difference as Glendale outscored Cypress 22-15 off turnovers. Despite the mistakes, Cypress held on to the lead for most of the first half until giving it up just at the end down 25-24 in the first half. Glendale took off in the second half jumping out to a 13 point lead. Cypress finally responded halfway through the second half going on a 7-0 run cutting the lead to six. The Chargers continued to etch away at the lead with a three-point bucket by freshman guard Michelle Salemi at the eight second mark and then a made jumper by freshman guard Sequana Norris with just three seconds remaining. Cypress was forced to foul with two seconds on the clock trailing by one. The Glendale shooter missed both but Cypress was unable to get another shot off settling for the one point loss.
Sophomore forward Letisha Batiste led Cypress on the boards with a career high fifteen rebounds while adding eight points. Freshman guard Marissa Main also added eight with four rebounds.
