Cypress Takes Tournament Opener

Cupertino, Calif. – The Chargers travelled north to De Anza for the annual pre-New Year tournament. Cypress opened the tournament against Porterville and took the lead and the win 81-65. Freshman guard Sequanna Norris led Cypress with 19 points going 8 for 13 from the field in addition to four assists, and four steals.
Cypress took the lead early taking a ten point first half lead 43-33. The Chargers took advantage of Porterville turnovers scoring 33 points off of turnovers. Freshman guard Michelle Salemi followed Norris with 17 points including four three-pointers with two assists and two steals. Freshman guard Candyce Carlberg was the third Charger in double-digits with ten points plus six rebounds and three assists.
Cypress improves to 4-8 and must prepare for host De Anza tomorrow in the championship bracket. The winner will move on to the championship game and the loser will play for third. De Anza is 9-4 coming off of a 66-42 first round win over Cosumnes River. The two will face off Saturday 8:00 pm at De Anza.
