Sputtering Offense Leads to Charger Tournament Loss

Cupertino, Calif. – After a decisive win Friday night, Cypress moved on to face host De Anza for the right to play in the championship game of the De Anza Tournament. The Chargers could not answer the challenge struggling from the field with just 16 field goals losing 67-42. Cypress will now move on to the third place game. Freshman guard Kejera Jolly led Cypress with a near double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.

Cypress fell behind early down nine at half. The struggles continued in the second half unable to reach the free-throw line and scoring just 20 points in the half for the eventual 25 point loss. Scoring was spread evenly throughout the Chargers and no one was able to reach double-digits. Freshman guard Candyce Carlberg led in assists with three in addition to five points.

Cypress falls to 4-9 and move on to the third place game for a rematch against Merced. Cypress lost to Merced 61-53 in the second game of the year. This time they will face off at De Anza Sunday at 1:00 pm.
