Cupertino, Calif. – After a loss on Saturday, Cypress settled for playing for third in the De Anza Tournament Sunday afternoon against a familiar foe in Merced College. Cypress lost to Merced earlier this year to open the season and fell again to the Blue Devils 57-71. Freshman point guard Michelle Salemi led the Chargers in scoring with 15 points including three three-pointers.

Cypress shot a dismal 31.8% from the field in the first half scoring just seven field goals for 23 points in the half falling behind by ten at the halfway point. The undersized Chargers were killed on the boards allowing Merced to grab 56 while Cypress only had 27. Freshman guard Sequana Norris put up 11 points while adding three assists and three steals. Freshman guard Kejera Jolly was Cypress final player in double digits with 10 points.

The Chargers fall to 4-10 on the season and look forward less than a week ahead to their final pre-conference game before beginning the perennially tough Orange Empire Conference schedule. Cypress will tune up with Canyons on Friday. Canyons is 9-7 on a three game loss skid. The two will face off in their annual contest Friday at 5:30 pm at Cypress.
