Cypress, Calif. – Cypress got a preview of Orange Empire Conference competition ahead as they opened conference play against fourteenth ranked Santa Ana. Santa Ana is just one of five ranked OEC teams and proved it Wednesday night handing Cypress a 75-48 loss. Freshman guard Sequana Norris was a bright spot for Cypress with a team high 28 points along with three steals.

The Chargers took their only lead of the game at the beginning with a layup by freshman forward Jazzlyn Walker. That lead quickly disappeared as the Dons took control going on a 12-0 run. They slowly stretched the lead from there as Cypress could not find a solution ending the half 43-25 in Santa Ana’s favor. The second half continued much as the first half did with the Chargers slowly falling further behind scoring just 23 points in the second half to lose 65-48.

Sophomore forward Letisha Batiste returned to the floor for Cypress as the only other Charger in double-digits with 11 along with nine rebounds. Freshmen guards Kejera Jolly and Candyce Carlberg combined for nine points and 12 rebounds.

Cypress falls to 4-12 and 0-1 in conference. They have an even tougher task ahead as they go on the road Friday to face fourth ranked Orange Coast. OCC is the defending conference champion 17-2 coming off of an 81-60 win over 12th ranked Irvine Valley. The Chargers and Pirates will face off Friday at Orange Coast at 7:30 pm.
