Early Deficit Undoes the Chargers

Costa Mesa, Calif. – Cypress traveled to Orange Coast to face the highest ranked team in the conference Friday. The Chargers were able to play with the Pirates but much too late falling behind early and staying behind to lose 83-60. Sophomore forward Letisha Batiste led Cypress with a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Orange Coast jumped out quickly putting Cypress behind 25-5 after the first seven minutes of play. Cypress was forced to attempt to play catch-up from there but the Pirates kept the Cypress at bay finishing the half 51-30 in OCC’s favor. The Chargers kept pace with the Pirates in the second half but were unable to chip into the lead for the eventual 23 point loss.
Sophomore forward Saw-Ann Bryan made her return from injury to contribute 13 points and seven rebounds. Freshman guard Sequana Norris added 12 points and four steals. Freshman guard Candyce Carlberg dished out five assists.
Cypress falls to 4-13 and 0-2 in conference. They will have a few days off to prepare for Golden West. The Rustlers are 6-11 and 0-2 in conference coming off of a 82-51 loss to Santa Ana. The two will face off Wednesday at 7:00 pm at Cypress.
