Merced, Calif. - The Chargers openned their season against a tough rival, Reedley college at the first round of the Merced Tournament. Cypress came back from an early deficit and made it a back and forth game. Reedley hit two freethrows in the last 8 seconds to take the lead by 1 and end the game 62-63. Sophomore forward Ana Fakatou led all scorers with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Anureet Dhaliwal started her college career with 15 points shooting 5-6 from the field.

The game was fast paced and showed first game jitters for both teams. Cypress ended the game with 40 turnovers while Reedley had 35. "It was an intense game with some of the mistakes i expected to see in the first game. Reedley just made the plays down the stretch. I'm pleased with how we came back" said head coach Margaret Mohr. Cypress forward Sheila Ho-Ching played 21 minutes before an injury scoring 6 points and pulling down 7 rebounds. Freshman guard Brae Butler came off the bench to score 7 points.

Cypress lost their first game last year before going on a 10 game winning streak. The Lady Chargers will look to bounce back against Oxnard in the second round of the Merced Tournament. They will play at 3:00 pm Friday at Merced College.
