Chargers Notch Their First Win

Merced, Calif. - The Lady Chargers regrouped after a tough one-point loss to beat Oxnard 81-52 at the Merced Tournament. Cypress came out with the lead early beating Oxnard by 8 at the half and stretching it to a 29 point victory to end the game. Freshman forward Brandi Thomas had a breakout game scoring 10 points in just 13 minutes. Sophomore forward Ana Fakatou led all scorers with 18 points in just 12 minutes.

The Charger bench shined as 13 players ended up scoring. "I was dissapointed with the team intesity and focus in the first half but i was pleased we played Cypress basketball in the second half. I thought our bench gave us a great lift" said head coach Margaret Mohr. Freshman guard Brae Butler came off the bench to score 10 points shooting 5-7 from the field. Freshmen Anureet Dhaliwal and Stephanie Lewis were a combined 7-9 to score 8 points each.

Cypress will now look towards the consolation championship to face off with Santa Rosa. Santa Rosa dealt Cypress their first loss of the season last year in the same tournament. The game is set for 12:00 noon Saturday at Merced College.
