Cypress Outlasts Canyons

The Chargers hold on to their lead to beat Canyons.

Cypress, Calif. - Cypress earned a small lead early and held off College of the Canyons 81-73. Cypress went in at halftime with a slim 4 point lead and steadily outpaced the Cougars in the second half for an 8 point win. Freshman guard Brae Butler had a breakout game with a career high 18 points and 15 rebounds to go along with her 3 assists and 2 steals.

This is the Charger's first win over a team ranked in the top 20 of the state. Canyons is ranked 17th while Cypress is 12th. Sophomore Ana Fakatou led all scorers with 26 points all in the second half going 12-15 from the field. Freshman forward Sheila Ho-Ching contributed 9 points, grabbing 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Freshman Anureet Dhaliwal was 5-10 from the field for 13 points and 3 steals. Freshman point guard Corianne Felix played 37 minutes and scored 7 points with 5 assists.

The Lady Chargers will have a short break before taking on Ventura. Ventura is 9-5 and ranked 13th in the South. The teams will face off Thursday night at 7:00 pm at Ventura.
