Cypress Moves on to Semis with Victory over Giants

Cupertino, Calif. - Cypress pressed on with a second victory to propel the Chargers into the semi-finals with a victory over Sequioas 76-61. The Chargers started quick but lost steam as they got into foul trouble. The Chargers then stretched the first half six point lead to beat the Giants by 15. Freshman point guard Corianne Felix paced Cypress with 15 points and 8 rebounds.

Cypress came out shooting with a 6-0 lead after only a minute of play. Foul trouble hampered the Chargers as three starters were on the bench with two fouls for a great deal of the first half. The foul trouble stopped in the second half outscoring Sequioas by 9 in the second half. Sophomore forward Paula Reed hit her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore forward Ana Fakatou scored 15 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Freshmen Sheila Ho-Ching and Brae Butler both reached 9 points, while freshman Brandi Thomas reached 11 rebounds.

Cypress will face Imperial Valley next in the Mike Gervasoni Classic. Imperial Valley defeated Modesto, then Solano to reach the semis. The two will face off at 8:00 pm at De Anza College Thursday night.
